Turkey Day Tequila Cocktails

Thanksgiving Day is just as much about Football as it is Turkey. I don’t know who your favorite team is and it doesn’t even matter. All that matters is that you have the right cocktail(s) in your hand on the big day. Start by putting the Bourbon down and picking up a bottle of Hornitos. But, if you must have whiskey, try the Black Barrel.


Let’s keep it seasonal. Cranberry and Sage. Sound good? Yes! This margarita will be the perfect accompaniment to your holiday spread.


The muddled sage in this cocktail adds a nice savory, herbal flavor to the cocktail that pairs perfectly with the sweet-tart cranberry syrup and the clean and crisp agave flavors of Hornitos Plata.


Cranberry-Sage Margarita:

2oz. Hornitos Plata Tequila

1oz. Fresh Lime Juice

1oz. Cranberry Syrup

3-4 Sage Leaves (Muddled)

2 Dashes of Bitters (Optional, your choice)

Cranberry Syrup:

1 Cup Unsweetened Cranberry Juice

1 Cup Sugar

1/4 Cup Water

Add the cranberry juice to a sauce pot. Reduce by half and add sugar and water. Heat long enough to dissolve sugar and remove from heat. Let cool and bottle.

*Muddle sage leaves in the bottom of your shaker. Add remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake your life away and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with Sage leaves.



The next drink will get you ready for football watching post turkey. After you’re totally full, stuffed and can’t take another bite, you’ll want to curl up with this cocktail. We’re using a Pumpkin Ale that has some nice baking spice notes to compliment Hornitos Reposado.


We’re dipping into [seasonal] Shandy territory with this cocktail. The perfect sipper for Game/Turkey Day.

Pumpkin Shandy:

2oz. Hornitos Reposado Tequila

1oz. Cinnamon Syrup (Simple syrup with 2 Cinnamon sticks)

1oz. Lemon Juice

2 Dashes Orange Bitters (Optional)

Pumpkin Ale

*Add all ingredients minus beer into a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Strain into a pint or other beer glass and top with your favorite pumpkin ale.

Hornitos Harvest:

2 Parts Hornitos® Black Barrel® Tequila

1 Part Pomegranate Juice

1/2 Part Lemon Juice

1/2 Part Simple Syrup

Lime Wedge

Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.


Orange You Thankful:

1 Part Hornitos® Spiced Honey

1 Part Orange Juice

3/4 Part Grapefruit Juice

Top With Tonic

Orange Peel

Preparation: Combine all ingredients except tonic in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, strain over fresh ice and top with tonic. Garnish with an orange peel.

Stillhouse Moonshine: Pre-Thanksgiving Cocktails

T-Day is almost here! Turkey day that is. You’ve sliced, diced, chopped, de-frosted, baked and braced the daunting crowds at the grocery store. It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the calm before the stor. With a cocktail, of course. These pre-Thanksgiving cocktails are brought to you by Stillhouse Moonshine. They’re simple, easy and delicious. More than likely, you can make these two cocktails with ingredients from your grocery store T-Day haul. With flavors like Brown Butter, Rosemary and Squash(…yes, Squash), how can you go worng? So, before you thrown in the proverbial [kitchen] towel, make some of the syrups listed here in these two easy cocktails and enjoy yourself before you in-laws come to town.


Thanksgiving Turkey:

2 oz Stillhouse Original
2 oz Fresh Juiced Squash
3/4 oz Browned Butter
3/4 oz Sage simple syrup
Method:Shake & fine strain. Serve down.
Garnish:Whole cinnamon stick
Glass:Rocks Glass
Stillhouse’s Winter Dream:
2 oz juniper-infused Stillhouse Original Moonshine
1 oz pasteurized organic egg white (optional)
2 oz Fresh squeezed orange
3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
3/4 oz. Rosemary Syrup
Method:Shake & strain
Garnish: Brush the Fresh Rosemary sprig across the side of the glass briskly to activate aromatics.
Glass:Coupe Glass
*If you want to serve cocktails on Thanksgiving day but don’t want to play bartender, the Winter Dream cocktail would work great as a batched cocktail (no egg whites). Easy to make ahead, bottle and chill on ice for your guests to serve themselves at your home bar. No cocktail fuss on T-Day!

Gin…Tiki’ish Style

Tiki. Tiki cocktails are great. They can be quite involved with many ingredients but they’re so versatile. Since the doors are wide open for creativity, why not make a tiki style drink with none other than gin. So, of course this isn’t the first gin tiki cocktail ever. Rum is king for tiki style cocktails, let’s twist it up a little with an original Gin tiki style cocktail.




I have to admit. I’m becoming slightly biased. I LOVE falernum! I have to hold myself back from making a tall drink with crushed ice and falernum. It’s just perfect. To me, it puts the little tiki touch on any cocktail it’s in.


Labor day may be the unofficial mark of summer but, here in NC we’ll have close to 100 degree weather next week. Doesn’t feel like to Fall to me. But, because I’m a lover of all things fall and winter, I’m already there in my mind. Hence the sage. Just a couple of leaves thrown in to shake.



Sage Gun:

2oz. Gin

1 1/2oz. Pineapple Juice

1 1/2oz. Falernum

1oz. Lime Juice

2-3 Sage Leaves

*Add all ingredients to shaker. Fill with ice. Shake until chilled. Double strain into highball glass filled with crushed ice, top with club soda. Garnish with Pineapple ring and sage. Cheers!
